Publikationshinweis: Vulnerability and Resilience in Sensitive Research: The Case of the Quantitative Researcher (2021)

Im Kontext quantitativer Forschung kommt ein Thema oftmals zu kurz: Die emotionale Belastung der Wissenschaftler*innen bei ihrer Forschung zu sensitiven Themen. Ziel der Autor*innen Bluvstein et al. ist es, dafür zu sensibilisieren und Missstände aufzudecken. Lange Zeit gab es nur wenig Bewusstsein in der Scientific Community für dieses Problemfeld.

In ihrer Untersuchung werten die Autor*innen die emotionalen Erfahrungen von Forschenden aus, die an einer quantitativen Studie über das Älterwerden von hinterbliebenen Eltern und von Menschen mit einer körperlichen Behinderung arbeiteten. Die Forschungsgrundlage bilden 66 detaillierte Protokolle der Forschungssitzungen im Zeitraum von 2015 bis 2017.

Die Analyse ergibt zwei Hauptuntersuchungsfelder: Verwundbarkeit und Resilienz. Forschende, die sich mit sensitiven Themen, besonders im Rahmen von Traumaforschung, beschäftigen, empfinden oftmals emotionalen Stress. Parallel zu dieser Belastung haben viele der untersuchten Forschenden aber auch Resilienzerfahrungen gemacht, die unter anderem zu gegenseitiger kollegialer Unterstützung führten.

Die Autor*innen geben Vorschläge, die das Wohlbefinden und die Sicherheit der Forschenden in quantitativen Studien stärken sollen: Schulungen, institutionelle Unterstützung und Strategien zur Selbstfürsorge.
